For today's #TuesdayToolsAndTechniques I am sharing with you a medium called gesso. Gesso can be a white, black or clear coloured. In fact, sometimes it can be a coloured substance. Another interesting aspect is often artists will combine a colour of paint with the white or clear gesso. This will give the base coat already painted in the painting. Most often people use gesso as a white coloured liquid substance. It is used to prep the surface for acrylic or oil painting. The surfaces to be prepped with gesso is usually canvas, but I have used rocks as in my online course called My World Rocks! When prepping canvas I first paint the canvas with horizontal strokes, I let it dry, then paint with vertical strokes. If it needs a third coat, I'll do another horizontal strokes. Once the gesso is dry, one can begin painting.
