What my Dad Liked
I remember being a younger artist and being influenced by my dad what to create. He liked realistic art; a landscape with some trees in the background, with a bright blue sky, is an image he would have liked. So I painted a few of those.
Influenced by Everyone
But if I am being truthful, I was influenced by everyone else except myself, of what was ‘good’ art. Whatever a person liked, I felt the sway of their interest that would determine what type of art I would create. It was the beginning of my art career and I would say ‘yes’ to every type of art request. It didn’t matter what I liked or what I wanted to do, I would say, “Yes, I can do that.”
It is Safe for Me
It takes a person who knows him/herself and what feeds their soul, that one starts to create art that is different and unique. “It is safe for me to create how I want to create.” To have the confidence to create art in the colours, subject matter and style that feeds you heart. Despite what others say, you create in the way that makes you happy and emotionally full. This confidence and sure footedness often takes years to get to this position.
Create How You Want to Create
Be true to yourself and know that it is safe for you to create how you want to create. There is no shame in this, only truth. You can do it.
