My Four Favourite Tools for Self-Care

Are you just starting out as a person who wants to use creating art as a self-care tool? ๐Ÿ˜

I’ve been there and done that, and I understand it’s tricky to find the best products to make those everyday/weekly creations much simpler! So, here are my favorite art & wellness tools and resources that I use every single day:

๐Ÿ’š #1 - My journals. Big and small, they’re always there when I want to create or express something—quick or more thought out. I also use those same coiled books for writing down thoughts, dreams, frustrations, and more.

๐Ÿ’š #2 - My iPad. Really! For art, I love seeing what other artists are doing on YouTube, Pinterest, and their websites. I get so inspired, often shaping my own YouTube videos with my own twist. For wellness, I use the Pomofocus timer. It helps with productivity by encouraging 25 minutes of focused work and a 5-minute break—great for tasks like creating a business handout or moving from a Reiki session into journaling.

๐Ÿ’š #3 – Watercolours + Waterbrushes

These two together are pure flow. When I want a gentle, soothing way to express myself, I reach for my watercolours and waterbrush. The soft blending, the looseness, the beauty—it’s like visual meditation. And with a waterbrush, it’s so easy and portable—no water jar needed! Whether I’m in my journal or using scrap paper, this combo helps me breathe through colour. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’š #4 – Oracle Cards

Yes—cards! Pulling one at the start or end of a session brings in grounding and intention. Sometimes I create an art page inspired by the message, or I simply reflect on it quietly. It connects the art with my inner world—and that’s where the real self-care magic lives. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’ซ

Without these handy tools, I’m certain my work—and well-being—would be much trickier!
