This #FridayFinds is already found. Being that it is Good Friday today, and many are gathering together with family and friends. Perhaps our greatest blessing is our family and friends. They are with us during our highs and comfort us during our lows...in fact, they encourage us (kick our butts) when we need it, as well. These people are there when we expect, and enjoy, the unexpected. They help us to live in the moment and enjoy our time spent enjoying ourselves. They share our space and welcome them into our boundary of love. They laugh with us, cry with us, are concerned with us and stand by us. What a great gift. What a blessing.
Here are ten ways to be a good friend (viewing family as friends):
-
Listen actively: When your friend is talking, be present and attentive. Listen actively to what they're saying, and ask questions to show you're interested.
-
Be trustworthy: Your friend should be able to confide in you without worrying about their secrets being shared with others. Keep their trust by being honest and reliable.
-
Show support: Be there for your friend when they need you. Show support by offering a listening ear, words of encouragement, or even practical help when possible.
-
Be honest: Being a good friend means being honest with each other. Don't lie or sugarcoat the truth. Instead, be gentle but straightforward when delivering feedback.
-
Be reliable: Keep your promises and follow through on commitments. Being dependable shows that you value your friend's time and trust.
-
Be respectful: Treat your friend with respect and kindness. Don't belittle them, judge them, or speak badly about them behind their back.
-
Practice empathy: Try to understand your friend's perspective and put yourself in their shoes. Empathy helps build stronger bonds and can lead to more meaningful conversations.
-
Be flexible: Being a good friend means being able to adapt to changing circumstances. Be open to new experiences and try to be flexible when plans change.
-
Celebrate successes: When your friend achieves something, celebrate their success with them. Show genuine excitement and support, and let them know you're proud of them.
-
Forgive and apologize: No friendship is perfect, and misunderstandings can happen. Be willing to forgive your friend when they make mistakes, and apologize when you're in the wrong.
P.S. Talk to strangers, we're all family on this planet.
