Summer holidays...
On this special day, I find myself wrapped in a cocoon of thankfulness for the enchanting summer holidays spent with my beloved partner, Suheel. Can you believe it? Three years have danced by since we last embarked on a getaway, making this escapade an extra special treat. The prospect of stepping away from the hustle and bustle of daily life fills us with an almost childlike excitement.
Highway 3
Our adventure began with the open road stretching out before us. Our destination? The captivating west coast, where the breathtaking allure of British Columbia beckoned. Before we could lose ourselves in the arms of those majestic mountain giants, we embarked on the picturesque Highway 3, the renowned Crow's Nest Highway. As I beheld the scenic wonders around me, a symphony of beauty, I must confess my eyes occasionally lingered on the road with a dash of determination, navigating its winding charm. The memories we carried from this winding road were not just about the landscape but also the thrill of the journey itself.
Vancouver and Family
Upon reaching the vibrant city of Vancouver, our days were painted with the hues of exploration and connection. Family visits warmed our hearts, and in a truly touching moment, Suheel's dad, Papa, remembered me despite the challenges of dementia. The warmth of togetherness melted away any worries and created memories to treasure. The pièce de résistance was bringing Papa along for a family gathering – a truly heartwarming experience.
Vancouver Island
The adventure didn't stop there; a ferry ride transported us to the captivating Vancouver Island. Nestled in the embrace of Langford, a stone's throw away from Victoria, we embarked on a culinary journey. The magic lay not just in the flavors but in the artistry of how each dish was prepared. The freshness and flavors titillated our senses in delightful ways.
Park time
While we didn't traverse the island as extensively as before, our spirits found solace in nature walks and park rendezvous. Picture this: blankets strewn across the grass, an array of delectable treats, and good reads that carried us to far-off lands. The serenity of these moments was simply enchanting.
Fires
As our adventure came to a close, we encountered a curveball: forest fires casting a shadow on our journey home. Highways were shuttered, roads barricaded due to the fury of nature's flames. But lo and behold, fortune smiled upon us as the very day we were set to return, the highways reopened. The marks left by the fires were a stark reminder of their intensity, scorching imprints etched onto the landscape.
Happy Cats
Our two-week sojourn was a masterpiece of memories, but there's something undeniably sweet about returning to the familiar. Our four-legged companions greeted us with joyful meows, reminding us that home is where our hearts find their truest solace.
