Dotting Fall Trees Part 2: A Creative & Mindful Journey
Welcome to another session where art and mindfulness come together! In this blog post, we’ll explore the highlights of my latest YouTube video, Dotting Fall Trees - Part 2. Whether you’re here to spark your creativity or dive into some well-deserved relaxation, this is the perfect place to start.
Why Combine Art and Wellness?
As an art teacher and wellness practitioner with over 25 years of experience, I’ve seen firsthand how creativity can help reduce stress and inspire joy. Each of my sessions is designed to give you a fun, accessible way to reconnect with yourself while making something beautiful.
This week’s project is perfect for the fall season—bright, colorful, and so satisfying to create! Let’s dive in.
What’s in This Video?
Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect:
1. Featured Supplies: Acrylic Paint Supports
Did you know there are more surfaces to paint on than canvas or paper? In this video, I introduce nine alternative supports for acrylic painting, including wood, leather, and cement. These unique surfaces open up a world of possibilities for your creative projects!
Hint: Watch the video to discover all nine!
2. Guided Meditation: Connect to Your Inner Light
Before we jump into painting, we’ll center ourselves with a calming guided meditation. This session reminds us:
> “You are not your body. The body is a tool. You are a higher vibration and light.”
Take a few minutes to breathe deeply and reconnect with who you are.
3. Art Project: Dotting Fall Trees
In this project, we use wood as our painting surface and create a dazzling fall tree covered in colorful dotted leaves. We’ll work with dotting tools like ball styluses, but if you don’t have those on hand, no worries! You can get creative with everyday items such as:
- Pencil erasers
- Paintbrush handles
- Q-tips
- Bobby pins
In Part 1 of this series, we painted the background, trunk, and branches. If you missed it, you can check it out here Click here. In Part 2, we’re focusing on those vibrant, eye-catching leaves.
4. Oracle Card Reading: Gratitude
To close our session, I pull a card from Namaste: Blessing & Divination Cards by Toni Carmine Salerno. Today’s theme is Gratitude. We’ll explore how to “pour gratitude through your body” and reflect on how this mindset can transform our day-to-day lives.
Creative Tips for Success
Here are a few tips to get the most out of this project:
1. Experiment with Colors: Use a variety of warm fall tones for the leaves—reds, oranges, yellows, and even a pop of gold.
2. Layer Your Dots: Start with larger dots for the base layer and add smaller dots on top to create depth and texture. Or do as I show in the video, lay them side by side.
3. Take Breaks: Painting with precision can be meditative, but don’t forget to step back, stretch, and admire your progress!
Why You’ll Love This Project
This session isn’t just about painting; it’s about giving yourself the gift of time and presence. By combining art and mindfulness, you’ll walk away with more than just a beautiful fall tree—you’ll feel a renewed sense of calm and gratitude.
