The upcoming course, ‘My World Rocks!,’ is using rocks, gold leaf and acrylic paints. Now you know what rocks and acrylic paints are, but what is gold leaf? First of all, the gold leaf can be real gold or it can be imitation gold to keep the costs down! (Extra note: the leaf can come in silver, copper and a mixture of colours such as green or blue with ‘gold’). Real gold starts out as a 5mm gold nugget that is expanded by hammering it into a gold foil or leaf. Layering this thin foil over an object is called gold leafing.
Usually when you buy the gold leaf, each leaf is approximately 5.5” x 5.5” (14cm x 14cm). It comes in a package where the gold leaves are loose leafed and each sheet is sandwiched between tissue paper sheets. When you want to use a leaf/sheet, you can gently lift the tissue paper and grasp (carefully!) the sheet under it.
To use it, you need to place an adhesive down (I use ‘gold leaf adhesive’) on the surface where you want the gold leaf. Then you place the gold leaf on top of the adhesive and wait for it to dry. Once dry, you place a sealant (I use ‘gold leaf sealant’) on top of where the gold leaf was placed. Now it is firmly set on your project and will last.
When you apply the gold leaf, you will find that the gold leaf will stick where you want it to stick, but you will also have loose bits of leaf! Don’t throw this away! You can use it again! What I do is take a clean glass, or plastic, lidded container and put the remnants in there. This way they are safe and ready to use for your next project!
You can apply gold leaf to almost anything. Applications on gilded statues, painting, crafts and etc. It is not for food, like cake and chocolate…unless it is the REAL gold leaf.

I consider May to be a month of awakening, renewal and launching. In fact, May was named for the Greek Goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility. Her name means “Great one.” It has been said that May is a good month to focus of self care and new beginnings.
This is when (where I live) where I start to think of planting flowers and seeing tulips spring from the ground (if the deer haven’t eaten them yet); the grass that was brown is sprouting green, just like the trees. The earth that was asleep is now beginning to launch itself awake.
So, it is new beginnings. This is a perfect month to launch my first online course that is called, ‘My World Rocks!’ With over 20 rock projects that come with personally written intentions by yourself, you will learn and be inspired. I teach 19 acrylic techniques for you to practice and perfect (nah, there’s no perfection…just you doing your best!). And in addition, since my classes focus on wellness, as well as art, there are 4 guided meditations to relax you. As well as a Calendar of Wellness that you can use to inspire you to take care of yourself.
The beautiful thing about this course is that it is yours for life; you can do this course, or continue a project, whenever you want to. It is open to all types of painters, beginners or seasoned painters as improving your skills is always welcomed and relaxation is the name of the game. In addition to the projects, meditations, Calendar and availability 24/7, you can have live access to me twice a week (Tuesday and Friday) for an hour; you can ask me questions, be inspired and share with other creators and play (create) along with me. This course is created for you to have a dedicated time and space to express your creativity and to reclaim your joy.
