For #TuesdayToolsAndTechniques we will be looking at Fluid Acrylics. The earliest recorded artist to use paint pouring techniques was David Alfaro Siqueiros in the 1930's. Famous abstract artist, but not famous at the time, Jackson Pollack was a student of David Siqueiros. Knowing this connection, you now understand where and when Jackson Pollack got his ideas to liquify his acrylic paints and start pouring and splattering them.
Acrylics came to the general public in 1950s when this paint was used for painting houses. Then artists began to use it as well. As for the actual paint labeled as fluid acrylics, came into being much later. Myself, and other artists, are very thankful for the freedom of creation that fluid acrylics brought to the painting world.
