Embrace Your Inner Artist: It's Safe for You to Be an Artist

Introduction: Welcome to this week's Safe For Me affirmation journey, where we explore how embracing your creativity can lead you to proudly declare, "It is safe for me to be an artist." In this post, we'll debunk the myths surrounding what it means to be an artist and help you recognize the artist within yourself.

Artist?

What Does It Mean to Be an Artist? Let's start by breaking down the traditional definition of an artist. According to the Oxford Dictionary, an artist is "a person who produces paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby" or "a person who practices any of the various creative arts." While these definitions are accurate, they don't encompass the full spectrum of creativity that resides in each of us.

  1. Art Is More Than Paintings and Drawings: Many of us have a narrow view of art, associating it mainly with paintings and drawings. However, creativity knows no bounds. It can manifest in countless forms, from cooking a delicious meal to arranging flowers, designing your home, or even the way you choose your daily outfits. If you've ever created something unique, you are, by definition, an artist.
  2. Creativity Is Inherent: It's essential to recognize that everyone possesses the capacity for creativity. Merriam-Webster defines being creative as "marked by the ability or power to create." Now, consider your daily life: you make choices, decisions, and combine elements in unique ways to create your personal style, routines, and even meals. This demonstrates your innate creativity.

Embracing Your Inner Artist:

  1. Acknowledge Your Creative Acts: Take a moment to reflect on your daily life. Consider the times you've made choices, designed something, or simply added your personal touch to a task. Recognize these moments as your creative expressions.
  2. Claim Your Artistry: The next time someone asks, "Are you an artist?" don't hesitate. Answer proudly, "Yes, I am an artist. I love to [insert your creative activities, e.g., paint, draw, sculpt, cook, design, etc.]." By claiming your artistry, you not only embrace your creativity but also inspire others to do the same.
  3. Cultivate Your Creative Identity: Explore your creative interests further. Dive into new hobbies, learn new techniques, and seek inspiration from art magazines, galleries, or other artists. Remember, the journey of self-discovery and creativity is ongoing.

Conclusion: It is safe for you to be an artist, not just in the traditional sense, but in the broadest definition of creativity. Embrace your inner artist with confidence and celebrate the unique ways you express yourself every day. Your creativity is a beautiful and essential part of who you are. So, go forth and create, for you are an artist in your own right. #SFM #ArtistWithin
