ART

What is creativity? Here is the first definition I found on the internet, “Creativity: the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.” I disagree with it. Why? Read on.

When people think of the Arts, they know creativity is part of the package. It is through creativity there are new styles of art (realism, cubism, impressionism) an new techniques and materials.

Often I hear, when a person is deciding against taking an art class, they most likely cite, “But I’m not creative!” Therefore, “I’m not going to be good at it.”

 Untrue.

Creativity is not limited to “artistic work.” Creativity is using one’s imagination or original ideas to create something new. You can be creative in art, music, dance and more. The “more” may surprise you. The “more” can be YOU planning your day, figuring out what to wear and creating what is for dinner tonight. It can be figuring out what colour to paint the walls, how to organize the room and what type of flooring you’ll use. You see? Creativity is not just for artists, but for everyone. Everybody is creative.

So, this newsletter, we found out ‘who’ is creative. Next, we’ll find out ‘how’ to be creative.

 SOUL

We are at that time of year that we look back and consider what has passed.

  1. It has been quite a year. COVID has made it a year of disappointments, frustrations and sadness. Appointments, get togethers and family vacations have been altered or cancelled completely. And then, there have been those who contracted the virus and those who died.

Our minds have been focusing on grief, uncertainty and sadness for a year. That length of morning can be tough on our system. We were always in a state of anxiousness and negative possibility. “What’s next?”… “I have a cough and a slight fever. Do I have it?”…”Is there enough toilet paper?”… ”Am I working tomorrow?”… We have been in a high degree of apprehension and uncertainty for a long time.

So what I encourage you to do is to embrace the new year; it is a new beginning. Embrace the new possibilities. Bring in close the thoughts of loved ones and friends. Hold the soft thoughts of love and hope. Accept with glee the possible moments and people who bring us joy. Think of these things… no, ponder on them. Take time to savour.

I embrace the thought of you, family and friends. I am also filled with anxious possibilities of the new classes I will put out this upcoming year. There will be My World Rocks, With Love… and Magic Mandalas. All these classes are open to beginners and seasoned artists (intermediate). Right now I am preparing the creation of the courses… handouts, filming etc. A great deal for me to look forward to.

But on top of this, I am thankful for your presence in my life. May 2021 ‘be merry and bright.’
