I hope this finds you well. coming into the second week of January. Quattro (the stray cat we took in) is adjusting fairly well. I have an appointment on the 12th (Thursday) to see if he is chipped, check out his overall health and get him fixed. I hope by getting him fixed he will no long get on top Makena, our other male cat; Makena is not impressed. Everyone is adjusting well, which is good as we have not heard from SCARS (Second Chance Animal Rescue Society). The times I have phoned they have been full and have denied cats into the foster system, even kittens. Quattro is a loving, sensitive cat. I'm glad he has crossed our path (i.e. back door!).
ART
Have you ever had a painting's colours fade over time? If some of the colours have faded that means that those particular colours are not very 'lightfast.' Lightfastness in paint is the colour's resistant to fading when exposed to light. In acrylic paints, the lightfast information is usually found on the backside of the tube of paint. The lightfast rating is one (l) to five (V). Five (V) means very poor lightfastness, while one (l) stands for excellent lightfastness. They can also be rated as Permanence: AA : Extremely permanent , A: Permanent, B: Moderately durable and C: Fugitive. So usually when I buy paint, I always try to buy lightfast paint (i.e. excellent (l),(AA) or very good (ll),(A) lightfastness).
SOUL
Whether you made New Year’s Resolutions or not, we all make goals. Did you know that if you write down your goals in vivid detail, you are 1.2-1.4 times more likely to achieve them? With that in mind, I’ll share the S.M.A.R.T. system to create goals for you to know and to remind myself as well!
Each letter in S.M.A.R.T. represents an action you are to do to create your goal. Here they are:
- S: Specific - The goal you set should be specific, and you shouldn’t be able to to misinterpret or confuse it
- M: Measurable – The goal should allow you to track your progress
- A: Attainable/Achievable – the goal needs to be realistic
- R: Relevant – A relevant goal relates to your values, dreams and ambitions
- T: Time-bound – There needs to be a target date for completion, such as four months or one year.
You put this all together and you end up with a detailed goal.
A weak goal example would be, and I think we’ve all said it, “I’m going to get fit.” The S.M.A.R.T. Goal example is: (Specific) I’m going to start running and train for a marathon. (Measurable) I will follow the Nike app training program to run a full marathon without stopping. (Attainable/Achievable) I have done some running before, my body is reasonably healthy, and the marathon is 6 month from now. (Relevant) I want to become fit, healthy, and strong person – I want to be full of vitality, energy and zest for life! (Time-bound) I have signed up for a marathon 6 months from now. (This S.M.A.R.T. example was taken from an article called “10 powerful SMART Goal Examples to Help you Achieve your Dreams” by Thomas J Law).
Just like any goal, we may need to adjust it as time goes on….and that is okay. Don’t be hard on yourself. Take it one day at a time and know you can always start again.
